Riyan Parag, an all-rounder for the Rajasthan Royals, proved his worth to the franchise after being promoted to bat at number four against the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Sunday.
Parag scored a 29-ball 43 to lead a 93-run partnership with skipper Sanju Samson, who scored 82 off 52. While Samson was the focal point of Rajasthan’s batting, Parag performed admirably as second fiddle to the skipper.
The young all-rounder, on the other hand, has struggled to gain fan support, which he attributes solely to his personality.
In a video shared by the IPL on social media, Parad discussed his ‘character’ and admitted that it is difficult for people to support him. However, the young all-rounder is unconcerned by online criticism.
“It’s difficult to support someone like me. I am a different character, and I do things differently.
Honestly, I couldn’t care less; if I think I’m happy in my head, if I believe I’ve prepared well and given myself the best chance to perform, I’m happy.
It’s difficult, but they (RR) have stood by me, and hopefully I can repay them,” Parag said.
There is still plenty of chatter around the Royals star, but he has found a way to block out the outside noise and concentrate on the task.
“There are many opinions and conversations about me. But when I play domestic cricket, I don’t listen to them.
True, you have a side ear to what everyone else is saying, but this has both advantages and disadvantages.
You do not have to let that bother you. No matter who says it, if I don’t truly believe it, I don’t think it matters,” he added.
