Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar named a 15-member squad for India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, with some surprising additions and omissions among them.
With the team selection deadline just a few days away, fans and experts have been open about their thoughts on the subject. Manjrekar has submitted his squad for the 15-man roster, following Irfan Pathan and Virender Sehwag’s submissions.
Surprisingly, the cricketer-turned-commentator left out the talisman Virat Kohli and instead named Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder Krunal Pandya to the team.
Manjrekar chose Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to lead the batting order, while Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav made the top four. Manjrekar included three wicketkeepers in his 15-man squad, with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul joining Samson.
Manjrekar’s 15 all-rounders included only Ravindra Jadeja and Krunal Pandya, with pace-bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube missing out.
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were the top two picks for pure spinners, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were named marquee pacers.
“Yes. And this is perhaps Kuldeep Yadav’s peak in terms of skill and confidence. You can see him out there now, like a Bumrah or Chahal at his peak. He is commanding that level of respect. He appears to be at ease with his responsibilities and champions those breaks and moments that you seek at the right time.
Manrekar’s team also included Avesh Khan and Mayank Yadav.
