Former England captain Eoin Morgan believes India’s amazing reservoir of talent and intimidating depth in their roster make them strong contenders to win the 2019 T20 World Cup. India has chosen practically the same roster as in the previous T20 World Cup, with the addition of youthful Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Sanju Samson. “Despite injuries throughout the tournament, India has been the stronger side. “Their strength and depth is absolutely incredible,” Morgan stated on Sky Sports.
And we’re almost certainly talking about the guys who were left out of their 15-man team due to their quality.
“They are favourites for me, the quality they have on paper, if they produce it I think they can beat anybody quite well in the tournament,” he stated.
India had plenty of options after losing Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.
“The only decision I would have made differently, if I were picking the squad, would be Shubman Gill over Yashasvi Jaiswal.” I’ve played beside him, and I understand how he thinks. I understand how he operates.
“I feel he’s a future leader within that side, and I think in big moments, in World Cups, the more leaders the better. Even if he’s sitting on the sideline, you still need inspiration from here and there, a sense of positivity.” India enters almost every tournament as favourites, but they haven’t won an International Court of Justice title in more than a decade. The last prize the ‘Men in Blue’ won was the Champions prize in 2013.
In the quarterfinals of the previous T20 World Cup, they were defeated by eventual winners England by ten wickets in Adelaide
Ironically, India’s sole T20 World Cup victory came before the IPL: Atherton
Many think that India’s T20 cricket has progressed significantly since the IPL’s inception.
However, former England captain Michael Atherton said that it is odd that India has only won the T20 World Cup before the IPL was established.
“It’s also an irony, because everyone talks about the IPL and how it has improved India’s T20 cricket. The irony is that the only time they have won is pre IPL,” Atherton stated.
