Uganda players performed a spectacular victory dance following their historic T20 World Cup 2024 victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Thursday in Providence, Guyana. A video appeared on social media showed the players and support workers jumping and dancing in a circle while laughing.
Afghanistan defeated the African nation by 125 runs in their debut match at the T20 World Cup. Uganda, on the other hand, responded with a flawless bowling performance, limiting PNG to 77 runs. Despite losing seven wickets while chasing the score, they won with ten balls to spare.
Uganda captain Brian Masaba said at the post-match presentation that nothing is more important to them than this, and he praised the bowlers for setting the game up for them.
“A rather special win for us. It doesn’t get much more special than winning your first World Cup match. I am quite proud of the work they have done. Winning a World Cup for their country is quite an accomplishment. It’s been quite the adventure. Three to four years of really hard effort by the players and board members back home. Getting to the World Cup was great, but this is much more special. The capacity to immediately respond to the conditions – I’m quite happy of the bowling unit, they set up the game for us.
