Sumit Nagal of India resumed his ascension in the ATP singles rankings on Monday, reaching a career high of 71. His previous best score was 77 last week. The Olympic hopeful Nagal jumped six places after finishing second at the Perugia ATP Challenger tournament on Sunday. The 26-year-old, who will be the only Indian in the men’s singles category at the Paris Olympics, has accumulated 777 ATP points. Nagal’s recent strong wins have not only helped him raise his rating, but also qualified him for the singles event at the Paris Games.
The year began with a remarkable second-round performance in the Australian Open. While he was knocked out of the French Open in the first round, Nagal is scheduled to compete in the main draw of Wimbledon, followed by the Paris Olympics at Roland Garros.
He won the men’s singles title at the Heilbronn Neckarcup 2024 Challenger in Germany earlier this month and the Chennai Open in February.
Nagal, the top-ranked Indian singles player, has won four ATP Challenger titles since 2023, with Heilbronn marking his fourth on clay.
