India’s Ronak Dahiya secured a bronze medal in the 110 kg Greco-Roman category at the ongoing U17 World Wrestling Championship in Amman, Jordan. In the bronze medal match, Ronak, who is ranked second in the world in his age-group weight category, convincingly defeated Turkey’s Emrullah Capkan with a 6-1 scoreline, marking India’s first medal at the championship on Tuesday. Earlier, Ronak was defeated by Hungary’s Zoltan Czako, who eventually won the silver medal, in the semi-final. The gold medal in this category went to Ukraine’s Ivan Yankovskyi, who overpowered Czako 13-4 through technical superiority.
India has another medal opportunity in the 51 kg repechage round if Sainath Pardhi wins two consecutive bouts. His first challenge is against Dominic Michael Munaretto of the United States, and if successful, he will compete for the bronze medal in a repechage match against the winner of the bout between Armenia’s Sargis Harutyunan and Georgia’s Iuri Chapidze.
