Pakistan lost six World Test Championship (WTC) points due to a slow over rate during the first Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. The team, led by Shan Masood, was found to be six overs short, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to penalize them with a deduction of six points. Additionally, Pakistan was fined 30 percent of their match fee after Masood accepted the sanctions. Bangladesh also faced penalties for a slow over rate, losing three WTC points and 15 percent of their match fee.
As a result of these penalties, Pakistan remains in eighth place in the WTC standings, while Bangladesh has dropped to seventh. South Africa moved up to sixth place.
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10 percent of his match fee and received a demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This incident occurred when Shakib threw the ball at Mohammad Rizwan during the 33rd over of the second innings. The punishment was issued in accordance with Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses throwing items in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match.
In the match itself, Bangladesh’s spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan combined to take seven wickets, leading to Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win over Pakistan, a 10-wicket victory. Mehidy took 4-21 and Shakib 3-44, triggering a collapse by Pakistan, who were all out for 146 in 55.5 overs on the fifth day. This left Bangladesh needing just 30 runs to win, which openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam achieved in 6.3 overs, sealing a historic win for their team.
