Adrian Newey, the renowned Formula One designer whose cars have claimed 25 championship titles, is set to join Aston Martin from Red Bull, as confirmed by the team on Tuesday. The 65-year-old Briton will begin his role as Managing Technical Partner in March 2025 and will also become a shareholder in the team. Newey’s move comes at a pivotal time, allowing him to play a key role in the development of Aston Martin’s F1 cars as the sport transitions to new technical regulations in 2026.

“I’m excited to join Aston Martin,” Newey said, expressing admiration for the passion and dedication of team owner Lawrence Stroll.

Newey will collaborate with drivers Lance Stroll, 25, and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, 43.

Considered one of the most influential engineers in F1 history, Newey’s designs have powered teams to 12 Constructors’ Championships and 13 Drivers’ Championships, from Nigel Mansell’s Williams in 1992 to Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in 2023. His title tally could grow if Red Bull or Verstappen secure victories in 2024.

Red Bull announced Newey’s departure in May 2024, marking the end of a successful 19-year tenure that saw him mastermind cars for champions like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
