India captain Rohit Sharma, who recently withdrew from T20 Internationals, has spoken openly about his future in the longer forms. Rohit guided India to the T20 World Cup 2024 championship last month. A few hours later, he declared his resignation from the shortest version of the game. During a recent event in Dallas, Rohit was asked about his playing future. While Rohit admitted that he does not think far ahead, the India skipper insisted that he still has a lot to give.
“I just mentioned it. I don’t plan that far ahead. So, obviously, you’ll be watching me play for a while,” Rohit remarked at an event.
Rohit is the format’s leading scorer going out, with 4231 runs in 159 games. He also holds the record for the most hundreds (five) in Twenty20 internationals. He has won two T20 World Cups, the first in 2007 while competing and the current one in 2024 as captain.
Following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, Rohit and Virat chose to retire from international cricket. India will now have a new captain in the shorter format, while Rohit will continue to lead in the ODIs and Tests.
The T20 World Cup final against South Africa was Rahul Dravid’s final game as head coach of the Indian team.
Rohit wrote a heartfelt parting post for Dravid.
Dear Rahul Bhai, I’ve been trying to find the appropriate words to convey my sentiments about this, but I doubt I’ll ever find them, so here’s my attempt,” Rohit wrote in an Instagram post.
Rohit further revealed in his tweet that his wife Ritika Sajdeh refers to Dravid as his “work wife”
“I have looked up to you since I was a child, as have billions of others, but I was fortunate to be able to work so closely with you. You are an incredible stalwart of this game, but you left all of your laurels and triumphs at the door and walked in as our coach, making us feel comfortable enough to express anything to you. That is your gift, your humility, and your love for this game after all these years. I’ve learned so much from you, and each memory will be treasured. My wife refers to you as my work wife, and I feel fortunate to be able to call you that as well,” the India captain added.
“This was the one thing lacking from your arsenal, and I’m so glad we were able to do it together. “Rahul bhai, it has been an absolute privilege to call you my confidant, coach, and friend,” he said.
