Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is set to miss several games due to an ankle injury sustained during international duty with Norway, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed on Wednesday. Odegaard twisted his ankle in Norway’s Nations League match against Austria earlier this month, and scans revealed ligament damage. Norway’s team doctor had initially estimated a recovery time of at least three weeks.
Arteta shared his concern about Odegaard’s absence, stating, “There’s some damage, particularly to one of the ligaments in his ankle, so we’ll be without him for a while. I can’t give an exact timeframe, but it’s significant. Hopefully, it won’t be for months, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Arsenal, last season’s Premier League runners-up, will face reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday. The Gunners currently sit second in the table, just two points behind City, after a 1-0 victory over Tottenham in their most recent match.
