Former New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram, who played for Chennai Super Kings between 2008 and 2010, will join the New Zealand cricket team as their bowling coach for the upcoming three-Test series in India. This series is a key contest in the current World Test Championship cycle. Oram, a right-arm pacer with extensive experience from three Cricket World Cups and four T20 World Cups, will begin his role on October 7. The Test series against India starts in Bengaluru from October 16-20, followed by matches in Pune (October 24-28) and Mumbai (November 1-5).

At 46, Oram recently served as the Blackcaps’ bowling coach during the T20 World Cup in the Americas and held a similar position with New Zealand’s women’s team during their 2022 World Cup. He also supported the men’s team during their Test tour to Bangladesh and T20I series against Australia. New Zealand Cricket confirmed his appointment, noting his substantial international experience with over 250 wickets across formats and his participation in 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 36 T20Is over an 11-year career.

Oram expressed his excitement about rejoining the team, emphasizing his eagerness to contribute to the development of the emerging talents in New Zealand’s bowling lineup. Head coach Gary Stead praised Oram’s extensive knowledge of the international game and experience in franchise cricket, which he believes will be valuable in preparing the team for future challenges. New Zealand currently stands third in the World Test Championship rankings, with strong prospects of reaching the final for the second time in three editions.
