The weather forecast in Bengaluru for October 16 to 20 doesn’t offer much hope. As Team India gears up for their next challenge after sweeping Bangladesh 2-0, their first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru faces the risk of being called off. The forecast predicts heavy rain on all five days of the match, starting October 16. In fact, India’s practice session on Tuesday was also cancelled due to heavy rain. Weather reports suggest dense cloud cover and continuous rain throughout the next five days.
India, currently leading the ICC World Test Championship standings, are eager to add more points to solidify their chances of reaching the final. Meanwhile, New Zealand enters the series after a disappointing loss to Sri Lanka.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast (October 16 to 20):
- October 16: 41% chance of rain
- October 17: 40% chance of rain
- October 18: 67% chance of rain
- October 19: 25% chance of rain
- October 20: 40% chance of rain
According to Accuweather, October 19 is the only day with less than a 30% chance of rain. Despite the M Chinnaswamy Stadium’s excellent drainage system, both India and New Zealand will need favorable weather conditions to avoid a washout in the series opener.
Given the current weather situation, there’s a strong possibility that the match may be abandoned due to rain, and the chances of playing a full five days seem slim. Getting a result from the Test looks challenging under these conditions.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir, speaking at a press conference on Monday, gave insights into his team’s approach for the series.
Discussing the team composition, Gambhir said: “The lineup depends on conditions, the pitch, and the opposition. The best part about this team is the depth of talent, which allows us to choose any player and trust they’ll deliver. We’ll assess the pitch tomorrow and decide on the best combination for the match at Chinnaswamy Stadium.”
