Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck as Mumbai Indians suffered their third consecutive IPL 2024 defeat against Rajasthan Royals on Monday.
Rohit was dismissed by Trent Boult on the fifth ball of the MI innings after playing away from his body, and Sanju Samson took a sharp catch behind the stumps to seal the deal.
Former England cricket team fast bowler Stuart Broad discussed the dismissal on Star Sports, saying it was a proper setup from RR, and their celebration demonstrated how much planning went behind the wicket.
He also mentioned that there wasn’t much Rohit could have done about it and that the dismissal could lead to the batter having ‘philosophical’ thoughts.
“That was fantastic bowling. That was a fantastic plan from the Rajasthan Royals. I believe the entire group’s celebration indicated that it was a setup.
They expected Rohit to believe that Boult would swing the ball back, as evidenced by the wobbling seam release. That means it’s a deliberate move across the right-handed batter with the slip, and it’s also a fantastic catch. Low down to the right is always a challenge for a wicketkeeper.”
“I believe Rohit is now sitting in the changing room, philosophical, as if there isn’t much I can do about it. It’s not as if he made a terrible shot. “I thought it was fantastic bowling.”
Rohit Sharma tied the unwanted record for the most ducks in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024 on Monday.
Rohit edged one to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson in Trent Boult’s first over of the Mumbai Indians-Rajasthan Royals match at Wankhede Stadium, his 17th duck in IPL history, equaling Dinesh Karthik’s dubious record.
Glenn Maxwell, Piyush Chawla, Mandeep Singh, and Sunil Narine all have 15 ducks, trailing Rohit’s record of 17.
