Lyon’s Rayan Cherki appeared to secure a point for his team with a stoppage-time goal, only for Rowe to score a stunning winner from outside the box just two minutes later. The match was intense from the start, with Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi receiving a yellow card within 30 seconds for a challenge on Corentin Tolisso. Balerdi was then sent off after another foul on Alexandre Lacazette just five minutes into the match.
De Zerbi acknowledged Balerdi’s mistake but expressed support for his captain, dedicating the win to him. Despite being a man down, Marseille’s resilience paid off, while Lyon dominated much of the play but failed to capitalize.
Lyon was awarded a penalty after a lengthy VAR review just before halftime, but Lacazette’s shot was saved by Geronimo Rulli, and the rebound was fired over the bar. Caleta-Car scored with a powerful header in the 53rd minute, but Marseille responded through Lirola’s composed finish in the 69th minute. Garcia added a second for Marseille in the 82nd minute before Cherki’s late equalizer was overshadowed by Rowe’s winning goal.
Monaco Maintain Unbeaten Run
Monaco continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Le Havre. Following their midweek Champions League win over Barcelona, Monaco secured their fourth league victory in five games. Second-half goals from Eliesse Ben Seghir and Folarin Balogun sealed the win after Daler Kuzyaev had equalized for Le Havre.
Dutch defender Jordan Teze gave Monaco the lead within 10 minutes, but Kuzyaev leveled with a clever finish. Ben Seghir restored Monaco’s lead with a superb individual goal in the 66th minute, and Balogun added a third shortly after, finishing off a pass from George Ilenikhena.
