The match took place before 62,617 fans at the NFL’s Carolina Panthers home stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Vinicius Junior made his first start in preparation for Real Madrid’s La Liga opener in 12 days. Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner.
Brahim Diaz extended Real Madrid’s lead in the 27th minute with a left-footed shot from a tough angle, slotting the ball just inside the backline and across the goal into the far right side.
English striker Noni Madueke responded in the 39th minute with a header from the right side of the six-yard box, but Chelsea was unable to find an equalizer.
In another friendly match, AC Milan and Barcelona played to a 2-2 draw in Baltimore, with the Italian side winning 4-3 on penalties.
Luka Jovic scored in the 10th minute with an assist from Christian Pulisic, and Pulisic himself netted from a difficult angle in the 15th minute, giving Milan a 2-0 lead.
Poland’s Robert Lewandowski scored for Barcelona in the 22nd minute and equalized in the 58th minute.
