magic win

India’s run in the men’s doubles at the US Open came to an end when Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner, Matthew Ebden, were defeated in the third round in New York. The second-seeded duo of Bopanna and Ebden fell 1-6, 5-7 to the 16th-seeded Argentine pair, Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni, in a match that lasted 66 minutes on Sunday night. Earlier this year, Bopanna and Ebden claimed victory at the Australian Open. The 44-year-old Bopanna has already announced his retirement from the Davis Cup, and it remains to be seen if he will return to defend his Australian Open title in January 2025.

In other results, Sumit Nagal was knocked out in the first round of the men’s singles, while Yuki Bhambri and N Sriram Balaji were also eliminated at different stages of the men’s doubles competition.

However, Bopanna’s campaign is still alive in the mixed doubles, where he is partnered with Aldila Sutjiadi from Indonesia. Interestingly, Bopanna and Ebden will now face each other, as Ebden is paired with the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova, and the duo is seeded fourth in the mixed doubles event.
