Rohit Sharma scored his 4000th Test run during the second innings of the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday, coming out to bat during the 192-run chase. Rohit struggled to score in the first innings and was dismissed for two, but he was unbeaten in the second innings at 24*.

Rohit has failed to capitalize on his starts in the series thus far. In four matches, he has scored 266 runs at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 65.35, including one century (131 in Rajkot). Rohit has 4,003 runs in 58 Tests at an average of 44.97, with the highest score of 212.

In 100 innings, he has scored 11 centuries and 16 fifties. Coming into the match, India finished on 40/0, with skipper Rohit Sharma (24*) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (16*) unbeaten with 152 runs to win the five-match series.

England was bundled out for 145 runs in their second innings, despite some resistance from Zak Crawley (60 in 91 balls, seven fours) and Jonny Bairstow (30 in 42 balls, three fours).

Spinners claimed all ten wickets for India, with Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) and Kuldeep Yadav (4/22) leading the way. England led by 191 runs and set India a 192-run target to win the series by 3-1.

Previously, India was bowled out for 307 in their first innings, in response to England’s first innings total of 353. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal’s (73 in 117 balls, eight fours and a six) performance, India was left struggling at 219/7.

Dhruv Jurel (90 in 149 balls, with six fours and four sixes) and Kuldeep (28 in 131 balls) combined for a 76-run stand for the eighth wicket, allowing India to score more than 300.

Spinner Shoaib Bashir troubled Indian batsmen, taking five wickets (5/119). Tom Hartley (3/68) and James Anderson (2/48) were also effective with the ball.

England chose to bat first and scored 353 runs in their first innings, led by a comeback century by their top batsman Joe Root (122* in 274 balls, 10 fours), a half-century by Ollie Robinson (58 in 96 balls, nine fours and a six), and Ben Foakes (47 in 126 balls, four boundaries and six). The top bowlers for India were Ravindra Jadeja (4/67) and Akash Deep (3/83).
