The Indian men’s cricket team, the inaugural champions in 2007, is in Group A alongside Pakistan, Ireland, the United States, and Canada.

The Indian men’s cricket team will aim to end a 17-year trophy drought in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States in June.

In 2007, India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa, captained by MS Dhoni. Since then, the Men in Blue have drawn a blank.

The Indian men’s cricket team last reached the T20 World Cup final in 2014, but lost in the decider against Sri Lanka. India was eliminated in the semi-finals of the last tournament in 2022, losing to eventual champions England.

India, the current top cricket side in the T20I world rankings, will be captained by Rohit Sharma during the forthcoming T20 Cricket World Cup in the Americas. Hardik Pandya will be the vice captain.

The squad also includes Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. The Indian men’s cricket team has been placed in Group A, alongside hosts the United States, Canada, Ireland, and archrival Pakistan.

India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign begins on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The showpiece match between India and Pakistan on June 9 will be held at the same location, as will the subsequent match against the United States. The last group match, against Canada, will be played in Florida.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will include 20 teams, four more than in the previous tournament in 2022, which was hosted by Australia. The teams are grouped into four groups of five each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight, which begins on June 20.

For the Super 8, the eight teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals on June 26 and 27.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final will take place on June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

India trounced Bangladesh by 60 runs in their sole warm-up match before the T20 World Cup.
