The UAE faced Canada in the ICC CWC League Two’s tenth match on Tuesday, March 5, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Canada won the rain-affected game by eight runs, marking their third consecutive victory in the competition. They have now risen to the top of the points table, with six points from three matches.
Canada has three wins from three matches and a net run rate of 0.512. Namibia is second on the points table, with six points. They have three victories and one defeat in four matches, with a net run rate of 0.259.
At the same time, the Netherlands is third in the points table, with four points, followed by Scotland and Nepal, who each have two points.
Meanwhile, the UAE remains at the bottom of the points table after three defeats in three matches. They have yet to open their account, and their net run rate has dropped to -1.072.
Oman and the United States have yet to play a match in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2023–27.
Harsh Thaker’s unbeaten century secures Canada’s third consecutive win
After winning the toss, the UAE asked Canada to bat first, and their bowlers performed admirably, reducing Canada to 88/4 in 21.3 overs. Harsh Thaker, on the other hand, took over in the middle order and scored a brilliant century to lead his team to safety.
Canada reached 241/6 in 49.4 overs before the game was called off due to rain. Cricket resumed after the rain break, with the UAE scoring a DLS-adjusted target of 236 in 46 overs.
The UAE began the chase well, with captain Muhammad Waseem scoring 42 runs while opening the batting. Meanwhile, Vritya Aravind also scored a crucial fifty. However, they lost their way in the middle after losing wickets regularly.
In the end, the UAE fell short by eight runs, scoring 228/8 in 46 overs. Dillon Heyliger was the star bowler for Canada, taking four wickets for 47 runs. Meanwhile, Harsh Thaker took one wicket with the ball as well.
