magic win

England’s victory over the West Indies in the second Test has significantly improved their position in the World Test Championship standings. With this win, England leapfrogged South Africa, Bangladesh, and the West Indies to secure sixth place in the current rankings.

The comprehensive 241-run triumph in Nottingham saw England move off the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship standings and stay competitive with the leading teams. The hosts secured the series win late on the fourth day, thanks to spinner Shoaib Bashir, who took 5/41, his third five-wicket haul, to bowl out the West Indies for 143 in their pursuit of 385, as reported by an ICC press release.

England now leads the series 2-0, with the chance to complete a clean sweep in the third and final Test starting in Birmingham on Friday.

This victory boosts England’s standings, pushing them above South Africa, Bangladesh, and the West Indies into sixth place.

After the final match against the West Indies, England will host Sri Lanka for three Tests starting at the end of next month. They will then embark on tours to Pakistan in October and New Zealand in November and December for further three-match series.

The West Indies, now ninth in the standings with a 22.22 percent win-loss record after their defeat at Trent Bridge, have seven Tests remaining in this period against England (one), South Africa (two), Bangladesh (two), and Pakistan (two).

England has named an unchanged squad for the final Test, while the West Indies hope to have spinner Gudakesh Motie back after he missed the second Test due to illness.
